The sand blasting machine is basically used to clean the surface of any material, mainly for the metallic surface. It is one of the best, most efficient, and quick methods which uses compressed air to throw fine sand particles through a sand blasting nozzle to shape and smooth the surface of any foreign material. It is the best method for the removal of rust that causes material damage.
Sand blasting machines are used not only for the removal of rust but to prepare the surface for high-performance coatings or to treat final products to give them luster and surface texture desired by the consumer. Abrasive media used in sand blasting machines are sand, copper slog, steel grit, pieces of walnut, powder abrasive, pieces of avocado, etc.
These different types of abrasive media have different shapes, hardness, and densities. Each of these media has some unique applications within the blasting industry. The use of silica sand as an abrasive material in sand blasting is banned in many countries because silica sand easily breaks up and causes a large amount of dust. Excess inhalations of dust by workers who are involved in the process of sand blasting suffer from a serious disease named silicosis of the lungs.
Sand particles contain high moisture content that can lead to the premature demise of blasting equipment. In the place of sand we use steel grit for removing rust sand layers of paint from the thick metal surface and crushed glass(glass beads) for the light surface which could be damaged, if we use other heavy materials.
