What is Abrasive Media?

Abrasive media are the particles used in blasting processes—such as steel shot, steel grit, aluminum oxide, glass beads, or garnet—selected based on surface material, finish requirement, and production speed.

Why media selection matters

The wrong abrasive can over-cut a surface, create excessive dust, or fail to remove contamination. Media hardness, shape, and size directly affect finish quality and machine wear.

Common media families

Metallic media is common in shot blasting. Non-metallic options such as aluminum oxide, glass bead, and garnet are often used for finer finishing or sensitive substrates.
